Blog # 5 Scene 9
Finally the last scene, i found it to be a little confusing. The conversations were jumping around between people and also subjects. Everyone tried to conversate with Henry at once, which caused a bit of confusion between Della and Alice. Henry had to choose which girl he wanted to be with. The quote i choose "Don't you know you men represent the hope of your people?" -page.90 George stated this to the boys and I think this shows the maturity level of George. That motivational quote hopefully encouraged the boys to strive to achieve more in life. How will Henry continue on with his life , did he really learn his lesson from being in prison ?
Blog # 4 Scene 8
I loved this scene because the boys finally were out of jail and free. But I didnt like the fact that this scene was so short, it was a little weird. I didn't understand why Rudy was being tested on the different historical dates. The stage direction was pretty interesting to me, how all of this is going on while the bombs are being fired up in the air. How did they actually get released, was the appeal finally won?
Blog # 3 Scene 7
I found this scene to be somewhat dull, and it also reminded me of a previous scene. It was pretty straight to the point; I cant believe Henry actually has feelings for his laywer or is it just because he is in prison with no one else. On the other hand I'm happy Henry and Alice had a chance to work things out and get a better understanding of the situation(the appeal). "I have been there! If you lose , I lose."- page .84. This shapes Alice as a character shows her determination and seriousness about winning the appeal. Shes so serious she wont allow herself to even date Henry because it will complicate the situation. How did Henry and Alice get so close to each other , do you think this can be good while trying to work the appeal out ?
Blog # 2 Scene 6
I didnt really particuarly carre for this scene because of all the racism and how Pachuco was treated. I found this to be very depressing. How can someone be stripped not only of their clothing but also their culture. He was degraded tremendously and Henry didnt even help him as the soldiers ripped him into pieces. "You savages weren't even wearing clothes when the white man pulled you out of the jungle." -page.80 . The Press said this to Pachuco and Henry. They said this to make them sound as if they were in the wrong . They make it seem that one person can't have a sense of individuality/freedom to express themselves. This contributes to the overall theme of racism, it also show what type of character the soldiers are. They are very racist just like everyone else. How would you have handled yourself in this situation ? Have you ever been stripped of any values, if so how ?
Blog # 1 Scene 5
I did enjoy this scene , I think it gave me a different impression on people that are imprisoned. At first I didnt understad why people do things such as kill , but after reading this scene ma understanding becomes a bit less blurry . But i guess there is sometimes a reason and like Henry it was for his family who he values. He thinks his efforts were worth doing the time. "Each second is a raw drop of blood from your brain that you must swallow drop by drop." -Page 77.
Pachuco says this to Henry when he gets sent to solitary. He was trying to help Henry understand how this first time experience would be. I think this quote contributes to achuco as a character. It gives a more through understanding of what he went through and how he feels about it, shows a more of an emotional side. I dont understand when Pachuco was talking at the end of the scene about the Navy. What does he mean by "The Navy has landed? " -page.78 Where did they land ?
